The patriarch of my family was born and raised in Romania before his family (except my great grandfather) immigrated to the New World during the late 1800s to early 1900s. I have been training and competing with dogs from my teen years and living with large-breed herding dogs from birth. I am drawn to the Carpatin, Bucovina, and Mioritic shepherds, since I am one-quarter Romanian. If I was Russian or Ukrainian, I would seek out the South Russian Ovcharka for herding and IPO competitions. I have lived with the old-fashioned, big-boned GSD for almost 30 years, but this dog is now extinct. I continue to live with the old-fashioned European-bred Bouvier des Flandres dog. I diverted a bit by importing a Zolotoy Grada BRT dog from Russia almost 6 years ago, which is now very common in Romania, especially in the conformation ring. I would only be interested in a structurally correct, healthy dog, which can compete in both the conformation and work competitions. Therefore, not only must the dog be physically gorgeous (an exquisite specimen), but the dog must have the correct temperament and disposition exemplifying the breed. I would like a dog, which would be able to very successfully compete in the World Show champion class. I would be willing to commute back and forth from the U.S. to Romania, which means I am willing to learn the Romanian language.

Hi Rob

I would suggest a rescue. Thats where i got my CSD from. Border Collie Spot rescue, bring them over from Romania, if you check out their website they have a page dedicated to the breed and their rescue missions. Gill is the lady that runs it and is very helpful - Good Luck

Hi everyone

I have finally got over the death of my last dog nearly 4 years ago and have been totally charmed by he Carpathian Mt Dog by my Romanian pal.

My question is, how do I buy one given it will take a trip to Romania and I am really worried how to identify an honest caring breeder.

Can any Uk people help?Big ty in advance.

Having had GSD's all my life, I have recently rescued a Carpathian sheepdog whose mother and father came over from Romania to a Border Collie Rescue.
I have named her Anya and she is beautiful, such a lovely nature and a real friend for my 2 yera old GSD Mischa.
I have just tried to add her to my Petplan insurance and they have never had this breed registered before! I think we will see a lot more of them. Large breed, but not huge.

Hi, I have just rescued a Carpathian Shepherd dog. He is now living with me in the U.K. I have only owned him for 24 hours, and the bond between us is fantastic, Very very beautiful dog.
